Didn't they also send an e-mail with the key that had to be used with a password (memory is vague) to register it? If he kept all his mail, that key will likely still be in the TBB files (which are just text files). Don't know how large they are, but wordpad might be able to handle it and find that e-mail and registration string... AS far as the folders, I've done the same for a new PC.
