For basic up and running, the adjustments aren't that great. It's not
that scary you know. :) If TB! IMAP will be a problem, this is quickly
evident. Reasonable TB! IMAP isn't something discovered through heavy
tinkering.

Again, that depends. If you upgrade to the new GUI, everything seems the
same. You don't need to customise the GUI. The learning curve starts
when you go into customising, a feature that was previously not
available anyway.

In his situation, a little time invested in learning IMAP could save a
lot of repetitive actions and tinkering. Of course, inefficiency is a
snake. It's so easy to fall into it and not appreciate its existence.
it's not until you're working more efficiently, you appreciate the time
being saved.

While using ThunderBird, I had asked for the ability to bind identities
to folders. One person asked what's so hard about manually picking the
identity when composing. You see, he hasn't yet experienced the elegance
of auto-insertion of the correct identity.

I've read such testimonies from POP users. So, what will you say then?

OK, I'll say it. Losing mail is a rare complaint of TB! IMAP users. They
may complain about not being able to delete, having stuck queues etc.
However complaints of losing mail is highly unusual and hardly not a
reason to be getting excited or concerned about an IMAP transition.

Then again, I'm one who believes in protocol choice first, then pick the
client. Not the other way around.
