Hello SD,

I will explain what I do. The original idea is not mine, I think it was
Vili who gave the hint some time ago in this list or in TBBeta, although
I may have refined it.

I manage a number of accounts and I have added a new one that I call
'Archive'. This archive account is password protected because TB does
not open (and therefore read its files) until it is actually selected
and the password is entered. This, among other things, makes my TB start
much faster than it did before.

Now, in this Archive account I have created a folder (at top level) for
each of the other accounts for which I want to archive messages. Then,
under each of these "Account folder" I have partially duplicated the
folder tree structure of each of the real accounts. And I say
'partially' because I don't duplicate it all, just those folders that do
hold a lot of messages and for which I may want to archive 'older' ones.

Finally, in the Properties/Deletion of those folder where I want to
archive old messages, I select to 'Use folder-specific deletions
settings' and configure 'Alternative deletion' to move messages to its
corresponding folder in the 'Archive' account when the folder is
purged/compressed.

I am quite happy with this set-up because if, for example, I need to
find 'old' messages, all I have to do is select the Archive account and
enter the password.
