After a Windows re-install the original directory is still there (it's on the D drive) so I just double click the previous night's reg file and I'm back in business. The registry is being read/written to several times a second so it's been updated many times by the time you log on. You can't over-write it with a backup (except in safe mode you can boot from a previous good copy) and regedit only reads the live registry. > Well, I'm not sure.
