We’re always told to know our audiences, but we don’t always know much
about the people whose names show up in our inboxes. A list member
suggested that since this list is new, it would be helpful to have some
introductions so we have an idea who's on the receiving end of our
messages. Keep in mind as you write (and anytime you post), the archives
for TCP are public, so what you say will be around for a long time. Don’t
share anything about yourself that you don’t want everyone, including
future employers, to know about you.

So, I'll go first. :) I was a mechanical engineering student who ended up
in the perfect place: technical writing. I've had three tech writing jobs
in the past 10 years, and in each case, I was chosen for the job because
I'd taken a single AutoCAD class in college.

For the past few months, I've been getting started in interactive 3D
documentation (I3D). In an I3D web page, you can rotate the graphic, zoom
in, hide parts to see what's on the other side of them, see the part
number and description for a selected part, and even do section views. One
of my favorite features is making animations of procedures. You can click
on a step that says, "Remove the four bolts" and the graphic will animate
to show you *which* four bolts to remove. I've also been learning how to
do 3D solid modeling in SolidWorks and teaching interns how to use the
animation software.

So, there's a little about me. I hope each of you will share a bit about
yourself and your career!

Have a great day,
Lisa B.
