I've been a technical writer and/or editor for almost 17 years. I have a
B.S. degree in Scientific and Technical Communication from Michigan
Technological University (say that five times fast!). I'm also a
self-created unstructured FrameMaker guru. I single-source as much as I
can by linking shared files into multiple books and using conditional
text (no text insets if I can avoid them). My current job is writing
user manuals for bar code printers and some printer options (RFID and
wireless connectivity in particular), and I absolutely love what I do. I
work remotely 2/3 to 3/4 of the time, going to the office only to do
stuff that I can't do easily from home.

My favorite hobby has a tech-writing tie-in. I've been compiling a
cookbook for a few years now and have over 600 recipes in it. After a
layoff, I decided to type up the recipes for my Mom's specialty dishes,
and those recipes slowly became a book. Of course, I indexed the heck
out of it to make it easy to use. :-) One of these days, I'm going to
call the cookbook "finished" and release it to family, friends, and
other contributors. You're welcome to forward me your favorite recipes
for inclusion (use my home address: DLJones3423 at yahoo.com). This is a
good way to preserve heirloom recipes that might be lost otherwise. I
particularly love recipes that come with interesting stories. If you
used to spend Saturdays making yummy things with your Mom or Grandma,
tell me about it, and send the recipes!

One last thing that I feel compelled to share is that I and a lot of
tech writers who I know are devout Christians (I don't know if I like
the word "devout." Maybe "devoted" is better.). We do a lot of praying
for each other and for anyone else who comes to mind, especially when
people lose jobs or otherwise fall on hard times. Feel free to pass on
prayer requests to me directly (not to the TCP list), and let me know if
I can pass the request onto others.

Have a wonderful day!

Donna
