Time to do my show and tell, I guess. I've been a tech writer since the early '70s ... before there were CRTs or word processing applications. Worked for lots of big and little companies, mostly in the Boston area with one notable two year stint in New Zealand. I've been exclusively doing software documentation for everything from operating systems and language compilers to business process systems and lately encryption detection. I taught Tech Comm at Harvard and UMass Lowell for 18 years, and really miss it, but since moving to Vermont there's not really an option for doing it any longer. I recently was forcibly evicted from the corporate world - the best thing to happen to me in a long time. Now I work at home, have no commute, and enjoy picking up contracts, mostly for startups in the Boston area who recognize that I can indeed develop online help without being underfoot. I'm an STC Associate Fellow, and really enjoy being a tech writer. Hello, World! John Garison www.garisons.com |
