This was interesting because I was just struggling with the very same issue
that Carla had.

I tried Sean's first suggestion and opened the Book file in Notepad and then
in WordPad. Unfortunately, all the strange characters made it impossible to
remove the two tags that I was trying to delete from the Book file without
corrupting the Book file.

So, now that I've heard Carla's success story, I'll create a new book file.

Unfortunately, thanks to Carla and Donna's excellent suggestions about how
to set up a book for single-sourcing, I now have 9 books files, each of
which has well over 100 files in it. I'll use Snag-It to capture the book
file screens for each, so that I can rebuild them all correctly :)

Oh if I were only not so compulsive about cleaning out unused items ....
