Talk to an accountant on what this "additional income" will do to you 
tax-wise. 

A few years ago, my soon-to-be husband was laid off from the 
government at the first of the year. He got severance for about 9 
months, I believe (yes, it's good to work for the gov). In the 
meantime, he did part-time contract work and then began working 
full-time in July (when we got married). The additional income was 
painful tax-wise, even with him putting at least half of his new salary 
into taxes. It also pushed us over the limit for tax-free IRA 
contributions, and I had traditional IRAs at the time so we had some 
tax liability there. Given that your husband is a student, it might not 
matter, but if you've got two semi-decent incomes, it could. 

Good luck with your new endeavor! It sounds like this could turn out 
to be a good thing for you in the end.
