You're still gunna talk to us after you make it..aren't ya? I agree with Thomas, you are in a great position to live out your dream. However, I disagree on one point...I'd take the hubby out for a great dinner (play, movie, etc.) as a celebration of your new opportunity. Then, I'd get down to work making that dream a reality. You can do it. After all, you created this list serv. If you can keep this motley crew in line, then running a business should be a snap.
I got canned by the world's largest computer company in a RIF nearly a year ago, with no severance and with only one days notice. Today, I am in the midst of negotiating whether I should take a long-term renewable contract for an improved position at a local company, or go for permanent employment at a very reasonable wage. (I've been contracting with this company for over six months and we're a good fit.) My wife and I are now looking to move from renters to homeowners and use the additional space to expand our photography/art print business. None of this would have happened if I wasn't terminated, canned, let go, dropped of the roster.... Thomas had another good point...keep in contact with your former employer(s). I've kept in contact with virtually everyone I worked with after the termination and those contacts resulted in a number of very lucrative short-term contracts. I still help one of my former clients on the side with documentation and Help creation. Ironically, the excessively large computer company that showed me the door has also contacted me about my availability for a few short-term projects. So...pat yourself on the back, hold your head up high and open the door as wide as you can. It's a wonderful world out there and it has been dropped on your doorstep. Good luck...
