KISS and Jack Valenti's (former LBJ speech writer, then head ) of words 
come first to mind: 
"Keep it short, sharp and punchy." Seems to apply to every type of 
communication.

I would also consider newswriting style, which advises using the 4 Ws + H 
to organize the writing: Who, What, Where, When, and How.
