I bought a 2 GB SanDisk drive for $14.95 last Friday at Best Buy. It came with some potentially nice U3 stuff from SanDisk (I haven't checked out the sync utility yet, but it looks interesting), and I added a full suite of my favorite freeware goodies from portableapps.com. I still have 1.2 GB free after a full productivity suite (Open Office), e-mail, The Gimp, instant messenger, PDF reader, etc.

Plus, and no one's mentioned this yet, we now have cheap storage. For example, I bought a Sandisk 512mb jump drive for about $80 a couple of years ago. This year, I bought a Sandisk 2gig drive for $31/landed FedEx...and I believe that Sandisk is one of the high-priced lines! The point I'm trying to make is that I can carry my entire library of docs (~4 thousand pages), plus my docs source, plus all my personal stuff on my jump drive. As for size, it's like my new digital camera, a little too small. True, it requires power, but so does a book, unless you read it outdoors during the day. One anecdote in closing: I was watching TV this week. My wife walked in and said, "Here. This went through the washer." I thought she would hand me my pocket knife, but it was my 2 gig drive. I shook out the water, let it dry overnight, plugged it in, and it works like a champ. Thank goodness it wasn't my checkbook...Kelly. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Martinek, Carla Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2007 4:08 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [TCP] Documentation Delivery: Print or CD? If you sell your product globally, the translations can really cause a logistics nightmare if you have to provide printed docs. 1. Many countries, such as Canada, charge PER PAGE for docs that come in the box. 2. Unless your supply chain is set up to ship specific configurations to specific countries, you'll have to put every printed language in the box. This adds weight, and hence shipping costs. Also, refer back to #1. 3. Trying to fit multiple languages into a single doc is a difficult design task. Try putting 30 languages on a 8.5x14 quick ref page -- very difficult, but we did it. I wasn't happy with the final results, but was constrained to that one page. It can be done, but to do it well... let's just say that I've seen very few multi-language docs that worked well. I also have a required-to-print 2-page safety guide, which when translated, is a 60 page booklet in 8pt text. To distribute via PDF on a CD, you can design a template for distribution that will print on either A4 or 8.5x11, which is what we do. Or you can have an A4 template for most languages, and 8.5x11 for North American languages. It's easily switched if you are using Frame. And now, totally unrelated to this subject... visit this link for a peek at winter! http://www.admin.mtu.edu/urel/cams/statue1/still.html My Alma Mater -- they're expecting another 12-15 inches of snow on Saturday. Yeah!!! Winter is here!!! Now if they can just send some of that south here to Chicago.... -Carla - CONFIDENTIAL- This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential, and may also be legally privileged.
