Hi Keith, and all,

That's interesting info. It's really exciting what developments are taking
place in this industry.

Nice, buying your own Christmas gift. 8-)

For me to consider any bulb for an incandescent replacement, it has to be
dimmable. I use cfl's now, but I don't like that they're not dimmable.

I've become really fascinated with this bulb

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Cree-60W-Equivalent-Soft-White-2700K-A19-Dimmable-LED-Light-Bulb-BA19-08027OMF-12DE26-2U100/204592770

It's the Cree 60 W equivalent LED bulb at Home Depot. I think it's one of the
best options in the market. Key facts are:

* Current pricing: $ 13
* 60 W equivalent light
* dimmable
* less shadow casting structure, more omnidirectional light, by appearance,
less visible structure than the walmart bulbs.
* 9.5 W actual energy usage
* 800 lumens
* 2700 k color temperature for this model, like an incandescent, you cannot
tell the difference by looking.
* 10 year warranty at 6 hr / day
* can use in enclosures
* can use in damp locations
* no toxic materials
* rubberized safety coated glass shell - I really like this.
* 25,000 hr life (22.8 years at 3 hr / day)

I own a couple of these and have them in my front porch lights, which are hard
to access. They look just like the old incandescents. I've also given one or
two as a gift. I don't have the funds to replace all my cfl's with these. I
switched from incandescents to cfl's years ago. But I'm going with led when
the old ones burn out. I'm waiting for 100W equivalents. I'd highly recommend
checking out the Cree.

One cool thing you can do with these or cfl's is to get much more light output
out of a low wattage table lamp or fixture. Let's say you have something rated
for only 40 W. With a led or cfl, you can get the equivalent of 100 W or even
150 W of light within that 40 W limit, assuming the bulb will fit.

Sincerely,

Ron
