Hi all, I'm not sure whether this has been discussed here before. It might have been. But, while browsing on Arstechnica, I saw a link to this over to the side and thought I'd share it.
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/08/gun-linux-on-the-range-with-trackingpoints-new-ar-15s/ For only $ 10k - $ 30k, one can get an ultra accurate Linux powered rifle, with which, an untrained operator with no rifle experience can hit a small target at 1000 yards. I guess it's kind of like what cameras do with optical image stabilization, but with a gun barrel. (I can barely SEE a target at 1000 yards without optics.) I like this idea if it's the good guys that have these. Not so much if the bad guys have them. I can see one soldier saying to another, "distract the enemy while I reboot my gun", or "oh heck, I forgot to charge my gun's battery". They say the scope alone has 7 cpu's. Well, whether it's good or bad, it certainly is progress. Sincerely, Ron -- Sent from my Android Acer A500 tablet with bluetooth keyboard and K-9 Mail. Please excuse my potential brevity if I'm typing on the touch screen. (PS - If you email me and don't get a quick response, you might want to call on the phone. I get about 300 emails per day from alternate energy mailing lists and such. I don't always see new email messages very quickly.)
