Yes I'll be adding to the lenses as time goes on. Really hoping to get one that does HD video decently as well - I hate dragging another camera around no matter how small. Dylan Haines Systems Technical Support Manager

A nice zoom for portraits but not for anything else. he's also right that w/ all the extra pixles you can do a lot of zooming thru cropping. it's a lot more fun to zoom thru glass w/ a 200mm being a good compromise. But, I think telephoto is a lot like storage in that you can never get enough. I have a 100-300mm and I really want a 400 or 500mm top end. But, the bigger lenses start getting real expensive as do the really good fast sharp prime lenses. And, since you'll upgrade your dslr evey few years but probably use the same lenses thru many cameras I'd pay special attention to the lenses. I'd still consider a used model, a lot of people have upgraditis and have to always get the next new thing leaving wonderful technology that is only a few years old being a real bargin. I took a quick look at the Nova Scotia Craigslist and saw a Nikon D200 for $700 http://halifax.en.craigslist.ca/pho/1941925483.html It's offered with a 18-70mm lens and has a 1.5x multiplier giving you the effect of a 27-105mm zoom. Whatever you do... Good luck On Thu, Sep 9, 2010 at 10:39 AM, Mike Oliveri <mike.oliv...@student.rb60.com> wrote: 18-55mm is only good for wide angle. 55mm doesn't get you very close at all. On the plus side, with the sharp pictures the kit lenses tend to produce and the high megapixel count, you can crop down fairly close and still get reasonable print quality for your pics. Our yearbook class bought a 50mm prime lens with a large aperture (f1.8) for use in low light, and they're still able to crop and get good photos from across the gym. I do the same thing when taking pictures at my karate dojo. I'd prefer to buy this from a store than eBay - some of the cameras on eBay sold as new have knock-off parts etc. How do you find the zoom ability of the 18-55mm? I would probably get a proper zoom later but wondering if the included lense is ok to start with. 2nd waterproof camera might be a good idea in my case :-( Dylan Dylan Haines Systems Technical Support Manager HB Studios Multimedia Ltd. I had a separate video camera that shot 1080p and a Canon XSI, but sold both of them and consolidated to one SLR. It's $899 with the 18-55mm lens. This was my first DSLR and I never bothered to read and understand all of the advanced settings. I used the auto mode on everything and the pictures turned out much better than a point and shoot ever did. You would look at the photos and just know how different they looked compared to a point and shoot. So now, I only have two cameras. One for video and nice quality photos and a second water-resistant point and shoot for portability and snorkeling shots. Joseph Lee Account Executive K-12 Education (IN) Apple, Inc.
