Maybe I don't understand your enviroment or question but here is the setup
we use.   We don't use perferred servers for login  (leave box blank).  THe
clients login to which ever server is the first to answer the login
request.  However once authenticaion is completed the login script runs and
that maps the users to the correct server/volume.

End result is all servers handle logins and the users get access to the
files they need.

I have all my servers in the same SLP scope.  I think if you try to
micromanage these settings it will cause headaches down the road if you try
to change your server or client configs.
