I did find one thing that might have an effect. I took a computer that
almost always gets the mapping wrong and removed the Ip of the "wrong"
server from the service list and only had the IP of the server I wanted and
did a reboot. This time it got it right. Need to do a few more reboots to
make sure it works out.

Hi Charlie,
Maybe I don't understand your enviroment or question but here is the setup
we use. We don't use perferred servers for login (leave box blank). THe
clients login to which ever server is the first to answer the login request.
However once authenticaion is completed the login script runs and that maps
the users to the correct server/volume.

End result is all servers handle logins and the users get access to the
files they need.

I have all my servers in the same SLP scope. I think if you try to
micromanage these settings it will cause headaches down the road if you try
to change your server or client configs.

Geeks,

Running Novell SLED10 and I am now seeing a few cases where the Novell
client seems to be picking the wrong server on the first login. (High
school computers connecting to the grade school server etc.) The client on
all of the boxes are being given the preferred server, tree, context etc.
The network is simple - two servers in the same tree and context. The only
thing I am unsure about is that the vendor that did the install set the
service location on both of the servers to the same name (SCOPED). So in
the client the Scope list is set to SCOPED (static) and the directory agent
lists BOTH of the servers, with the server we want to connect to being
listed first and the other one second. (ALL the IP addresses are static so
these are set as static as well)
-- Should we ONLY list the server we want to connect to in the directory
agent list and leave the other one out?
-- Should the servers have unique Scope List names?

Thanks in advance!
