Since my name was dropped I will just concur that a backup is not intended to be an upgrade. Restore first then consider upgrading. I was lucky enough to install 1.5 originally and have not needed to worry about upgrading. I understand that there were several things that were persuading friends to not upgrade (other than just time) but I cannot speak to whether they still are at issue. Just be sure to check out all of you extensions and see that they will run in 1.5 - preferably in native mode.
