When is the last time you checked how much copper was actually in a penny?

Since 1982 pennies have been zinc with a copper plating - only about 2.5% of
the penny's weight is actually copper.

One of my neighbors works for Ameren and was on that job Saturday morning.
This guy must have really needed that bottle of Ripple. This leads me to a
question... How can copper be worth so much and a penny is still worth $.01?
