I recently purchased a new laptop for our athletic director/science teacher
to replace his old one. He currently has 2 docking stations (one in office,
one in classroom) and he said he wants to keep using docking stations. The
stations he has now will not work with his new laptop so I'm looking at
buying new ones.

Looking at the compatible docking station for his new laptop, I see that the
station has a single DVI-D output according to the specs on CDWG, but in the
product overview it says that either VGA or DVI UXGA(1600 x
1200),WSXGA+(1680 x 1050) resolutions supported. This leads me to believe
that it can support VGA with an adapter. When I talked to my rep, he said
that there may be 3 different models of this same dock and that he wasn't
sure which one I would get from them.

I need something that can connect to a VGA cable so he can use the projector
in his classroom which is connected via VGA. I could use the DVI connection
on the projector but that would require buying a DVI cable just for his
room. I could also just buy him extra power adapters for less money than
the docking station and just have him plug everything directly into his
laptop.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this HP docking station:

Or any advice on what to do about the DVI to VGA situation?

Thanks.
