Since you are asking, I am finding that our teachers use their document
cameras far more than they use their Smart Boards. We have document
cameras in almost every classroom and only about 10 Smart Boards. I
talked to one teacher who has had a Smart Board in her room for the past
two years but this year moved to a room without one - but she does have
a document camera. She told me that I could keep the Smart Board but
that I better not try to take the document camera away from her.
(And the document camera was about 1/4 the price of the Smart Board.)
Too many teachers equate the term "Smart Board" with a data projector.
They claim that they "need" a Smart Board when all they really want - or
will ever use - is a permanently mounted projector. Since we mounted
projectors in every classroom and have document cameras in almost every
classroom, I don't here a peep about people wanting Smart Boards anymore.
