I can get by with typing with one hand on my computer keyboard too.
Once you get used to swype and confident in your swyping, you can type
faster than with a full size keyboard. I had swype on my old touch pro
and once I got used to it, I never opened the hardware keyboard again.
The only reason I have a hardware keyboard now with my Epic is because
it is the only Galaxy S phone on sprint. The hardware keyboard just
stays closed.

Is it a must have? No, you can get by without it but why would you
want to?

Looks like Swype has opted out of the “market” and gone the exclusive
OEM route ($$$ directly from the manufacturers).

I am approaching my one year anniversary for my Droid and it is still,
in my opinion, the best phone I have ever had. As for Swype – looks
like a cool tool but I have done just fine for the past year without it,
so, at least for me, it really isn’t a “must have” feature.

Gina Trapani of SmartWare.org was confronted by Swype (
http://swypeinc.com/ ) when she put it out there as a recommendation on
TWiG ( http://twit.tv/twig ). After writing about it on Smartware, the
Swype team commented (3rd comment; excerpt below) on their decision to
select manufacturers with an OEM license. Gina later recommended
http://www.shapewriter.com/ which work(ed) just as fine for me as is
possible on the tiny mytouch cupcake screen. <cue violin for early
adopter's blues>

So, in answer to your question, Jeff, we do not support this so-called
“beta” and ask that you refrain from using any downloadable version
of Swype. Thank you for being respectful of our legal stance in this
matter.

Stay tuned (and provide feedback) on our forum at
http://www.swype.com.

Regards,

The Swype Team

Thanks,

Tim Patterson

I downloaded it from Swype - had to download the file and install it as

Quoting Brad Grafelman <bradgrafel...@gmail.com>:
Shelly,

My Droid X (running Froyo - version 2.2) apparently has it built-in.
I'm not
sure if it's available as a download in the marketplace for other
phones/carriers. It might not be available for every Android phone..

One other hot app...

PDAnet - allows tethering without rooting the phone. There are both
free
and paid versions. The free version works as the full version without
any
limitations for a trial period, then it blocks SSL traffic after the
trial
period unless you purchase (or re-install).

I know Android 2.2 was supposed to include built-in tethering (I have
not
actually tried it) but my understanding was this still was not
supported by
Verizon and was going to incur an addition fee when it was.

I forgot about swype. If you don't have swype, you must get it. I
stopped
using the hardware keyboard once I got swype. I can type faster on
swype
than I can on a computer with a full keyboard (usually).
