Looks like Swype has opted out of the "market" and gone the exclusive OEM route ($$$ directly from the manufacturers).
I am approaching my one year anniversary for my Droid and it is still, in my opinion, the best phone I have ever had. As for Swype - looks like a cool tool but I have done just fine for the past year without it, so, at least for me, it really isn't a "must have" feature. -TS Thomas C. After writing about it on Smartware, the Swype team commented (3rd comment; excerpt below) on their decision to select manufacturers with an OEM license. Gina later recommended http://www.shapewriter.com/ which work(ed) just as fine for me as is possible on the tiny mytouch cupcake screen. <cue violin for early adopter's blues> So, in answer to your question, Jeff, we do not support this so-called "beta" and ask that you refrain from using any downloadable version of Swype. Thank you for being respectful of our legal stance in this matter. Stay tuned (and provide feedback) on our forum at http://www.swype.com<http://www.swype.com/>. PDAnet - allows tethering without rooting the phone. There are both free and paid versions. The free version works as the full version without any limitations for a trial period, then it blocks SSL traffic after the trial period unless you purchase (or re-install). I know Android 2.2 was supposed to include built-in tethering (I have not actually tried it) but my understanding was this still was not supported by Verizon and was going to incur an addition fee when it was. -TS -----Original Message----- From: tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org<mailto:tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org> [mailto:tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org<mailto:tech-geeks-boun...@tech-geeks.org>] On Behalf Of Steele, Thomas C Sent: Friday, October 08, 2010 5:07 PM To: tech-geeks@tech-geeks.org<mailto:tech-geeks@tech-geeks.org> Subject: Re: [tech-geeks] OT- Droid Don't see swype in the Market for verizon droid Thomas C Steele Technology Director Manteno CUSD #5 Sent from my Android phone using TouchDown (www.nitrodesk.com<http://www.nitrodesk.com>) -----Original Message----- From: Bob Schmidt [rschm...@d94.org<mailto:rschm...@d94.org>] Received: 10/8/10 5:01 PM To: 'Tech-Geeks Mailing List' [tech-ge...@tech-geeks.org<mailto:tech-geeks@tech-geeks.org>] Subject: Re: [tech-geeks] OT- Droid I forgot about swype.
