The mediaenforcer software polls napster and gnutella users (possibly others,
too) looking for certain files. The idea is that someone could track down
people illegaly publishing a certain file and send them a cease and desist
letter, sue their isp, whatever.
In an interview http://www.zeropaid.com/9online/media0531.php3 with the author
of the software, he claims to know of a design flaw in Freenet that makes it
possible to track the origin of files inserted into Freenet. He doesn't say
anything more, claiming that "... it would just be re-engineered". This was
several months ago, and as far as I can tell, he hasn't said anything more, or
demonstrated the alleged vulnerability to anyone.
My personal opinion is that it's either a) a publicity stunt, b) a misquote,
or c) he's mistaken about some aspect of how freenet works, but until he
chooses to provide some evidence, there's no way to know.
