Dave; I downloaded Freenet from the link in your reply, and here is exactly what
happens, after downloading and running the install, if I open Control Panel, and open
ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, Freenet is NOT listed. Like before,I went back to desktop and
opened Freenet,it seem to run slowly....Then when I try to close Freenet....It will
NOT close. What happens is the icon in the tray say's PLEASE WAIT FREENET IS CLOSING,
but it won't close, THEN I get an error window telling me that WINDOWS CANNOT CLOSE
THIS PROGRAM...CLOSE PROGRAM WITH THE PROPER QUIT COMMAND. When I install the version
0.5.0.7_01 (with the RED RABBIT icon) Freenet works PERFECTLY,and if I check the
Installed Programs list in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, Freenet IS listed. Leave me know if
this helps. Keep in touch.

No, don't do that. Do what I suggested instead. Install the latest one.
I.e. go to
<a target=_blank
href="http://www.freenetproject.org/snapshots/freenet-webinstall.exe";>http://www.freenetproject.org/snapshots/freenet-webinstall.exe</a>

This will install the latest version of the software. I would very much
like to know if this fixes the bug you were seeing with stopping freenet /
shutting down Windows. If you don't test it, and no-one else tests it,
then
we will never find out if your bug is fixed! I don't think any of the
Freenet developers have access to Windows ME so this is very important to
us, to you, and to the Freenet community in general!

For the record, it "was broke" which is why we've tried "fixing it", but
it
seems the fix didn't work on Windows ME. I hope you can try this for us.

d
