Thanks Michael,

I talked with them and went to a presentation. They call it Converged Services.
It's fairly new for them. Here is a quick glance at it.

I didn't like the prioritizing and dynamically bandwidth allocation so I am
sticking with the "traditional" way. Thanks all for your inputs.

Subject: Re: [lopsa-tech] Metro Ethernet

Hello Chuong:

You should ask to speak with their Sales Engineering team about how they are
actually delivering the product. It sounds like they are using a router that
splits out Voice and Data and then aggregates them on the back end over
multiple T-1's. Like this:

Router ---- Magic Box ------ T1 -----
                                                    -------T1-----
                                                    -------T1-----

The magic box above carries the ethernet signal over the bonded T-1's. Then,
they either split out a T-1 for voice or are giving you a straight VOIP play.

It could also be an MPLS-based solution over the same type of technologies. Or
a direct fiber play if you're on-net.

One big question is, does it really matter if it works? We have several
customers using various flavors of TWTC's ME product and it seems to work as
advertised, regardless of the underlying technologies. As Tom said, you might
want to check with a reseller because they can often get it cheaper (due to
bulk pricing, I think).

Regards,

Mike

Our current internet connection contract is about to be expired. I am looking
to cut cost(I guess we all do these days). TWTC is offering Metro Ethernet
solution by bringing in both voice and data in one package. Also, they will be
bringing in their own routers and I really don't like having no access to them.
I have several concerns. How reliable is Metro Ethernet? What are the pros/cons?

The price cheaper than what I am paying now...makes me nervous :)

Thanks for the advices. -CD
