I've been asked to check into the following for one of our employees who
makes frequent trips to Japan:

-----
Most hotel rooms where I stay in Japan provide only a wired Ethernet
connection to the Internet; there is no WiFi connectivity in the room.
Although this is sufficient for connecting my Windows laptop, I cannot
use the WiFi service with my iPhone, requiring the expensive use of 3G
international roaming instead.

Two potential solutions:
1. Configure my Windows 7 laptop (connected to the Internet via a wired
Ethernet connection) to also serve as a WiFi access point to allow
shared Internet connections by other WiFi devices such as my iPhone and
iPad. (Not sure if this is doable or not.)
2. Plug a portable WiFi access point into the Ethernet port and bring
WiFi hotspot service into the room.
-----

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing, and can suggest
which solution may be the best, and additionally recommend equipment to
enable this?

Thanks!
