Having recently played with Windows mirroring (dynamic disks) and Intel Matrix
RAID....

I find myself interested in a Hardware RAID solution for my own system.

Seems every few months I have a lock up, that requires the Matrix RAID set to
get initialized again. Have had to use image backups to recover a couple
times last year.

So, what options are out there for a Windows 7 system?

I think I only have an x1 slot open though.

Meanwhile, at work...the thought on RAID goes back and forth....used to be we
did software mirroring on Solaris (VxVM), and hardware mirroring on Linux
(Dell/PERC). Though then, we went hardware mirror on Solaris....though go
through some firmware updates and motherboard replacements...and the full love
for ZFS....the shift is to do software mirroring on Solaris now. Not sure
about PERC...it seemed okay in the past dealings, though recently we've lost a
lot of systems recently. Though I don't know anything about those systems, so
it could be how they got setup or taken care of. And, discussion is that we
should do software mirroring for Linux now. Though my co-workers talk like
its never been possible, and they don't know how it might get done. The only
system that had software mirroring in our datacenter has since been retired,
but I was the one that set it up (repurposed whitebox system)...but I used to
do software raid on Linux servers in a previous life. I also do it lots at
home.
