We have several that do 100fx on one side and 10/100/1000 on the other.
They also have dip switches so that you can use them to tell when the fiber
link is down because they will also take down the ethernet. They also use
some other mgmt protocol that I haven't looked at in much detail. I think
it will dhcp for an address, but Ill have to check tomorrow. There are a
bunch of vendors and they run around 250 which is about 1/10 of a good
managed switch. You can buy several to hedge against failure, but it
probably won't die.
