.except the ones you described aren't likely managed.

We have several that do 100fx on one side and 10/100/1000 on the other. They also have dip switches so that you can use them to tell when the fiber link is down because they will also take down the ethernet. They also use some other mgmt protocol that I haven't looked at in much detail. I think it will dhcp for an address, but Ill have to check tomorrow. There are a bunch of vendors and they run around 250 which is about 1/10 of a good managed switch. You can buy several to hedge against failure, but it probably won't die. Can you use a managed switch and use its interfaces or SFP slot? Hi all, I'm looking for a good managed (i.e. a unit with stats and troubleshooting capabilities) fiber-to-copper meda converter. I know there's plenty of "dumb" media converter choices out there, but was hoping to get one that has a console conn or the like to help me troubleshoot any possible issues. I'm converting between 50nm multi-mode fiber with an SC connector to 1000-bT copper. Anyone have any suggestions for a good one?
