Etymotic, who make in-the-ear earplugs and headphones, have a
``Personal Noise Dosimeter'':

one ($250) claims to use OSHA and NIOSH criteria, and also lets
you export the collected data.

I don't know whether these would work for official monitoring or
assessment, but they might be fine for getting a sense of whether
it's worth spending more money to get another device or hire a
consultant.
