Hi Andrew? What ancillary stuff do you mean? I can't think of anything for HDD backup except maybe storage space. Enclosures should be counted as part of the external HDD cost. Handling shouldn't be any more costly than tape, and there is no equivalent of the tape drive to invest in. FWIW, my position is that disk based backups seem to perform well for small organisations but larger organisations should still be using tape, in general.
