It's not impossible to break the volume into smaller volumes, but that
doesn't gain anything.  The point of the sparse volume is to be expandable
while only consuming the required amount of disk space ... and if I create a
bunch of smaller volumes ... I haven't gained that.

Also, a long time ago, I did use a bunch of smaller volumes, and found it
annoying because if I wanted to use more than one, I'd have to mount more
than once.  Soon learned it was far more convenient to put the various
encrypted volumes all into a single larger volume.
