Hi David
Unfortunately, you're not quite talking about the same thing here. We're talking about a
"Publisher", not a "Creator". The two are very different concepts.
A "Publisher" is a product which allows you to manipulate different types of
material and create the layout of the DAISY content. It is possible to create a DAISY
book quite easily, but the free options you describe clearly have restrictions and aren't
the same as a full-blown publisher.
Thanks for the suggestions but actually we ourselves are not looking for a
Windows-based solution. Nor do I use JFW, thank goodness! :)
As for the Word option, definitely not! Again it isn't a publisher. It is a
creator. The two concepts are very different. We are simply not prepared to
go that route and buy Office or any of its components.

Re Daisy Book audio book production.
There are easy free and powerful free options on the windows side. The one I
use is the free daisy Book generator. This program works with any collection of
mp3 files to convert them into a daisy book. . There a few restrictions. The
files must be named sequentially in the order in which they are to be played
and the filenames must not include any spaces. I use at the excellent free bulk
rename utility if this is an issue with files I am trying to convert into
daisy book. The program works in a command window but is accessible in Jaws. In
essence all you have to do is collect your files into a folder, hit the
application key whilst the folder is highlighted and then select daisy from the
context menu in explorer. Now press enter when daisy book generator starts up,
and then press enter to exit the program. You can review the progress of the
program with insert b but it is very quick at conversion. The folder will them
be a daisy book.
If you need a text based daisy option there is the daisy plugin for Microsoft
word. Obviously you have to pay for word but I think the plugin is free. i
never used this but did use the free daisy pipeline
option which takes more setting up. Unfortunately I do not have access to the
machine I set this up on so detailed advice on daisy pipeline will have to come
from a current user.
