Ar ok, very interesting and to the point. Well I use Thunderbird and I
have a Googlemail account. Fortunately most of the spam goes into the
spam folder on the web, about 99% of the time. Very interesting though
and thanks. Enjoy Viper, which does sound good and that's interesting
they do a lifetime license of the product. Cool.

Hello Chris
Let me tell you what puts us off Microsoft's products. They frequently covertly
collect your personal data as in Outlook Express etc. Many people don't realise
what's going on behind the scenes but it's been proven by security experts,
(Steve Gibson, for example), that these free Ms products are not all people
think they are.
There is an old saying, and it's still true today; you get nothing for nothing.
If a programme in the Windows world is free, and it's released by a big company
such as Microsoft, there' usually; if not always a catch. We have no intentions
of falling into that trap.
Have you noticed how your email address mysteriously finds its way to spammers
and advertisers? Even though you haven't given it to them yourself, and you've
often never even heard of the company? Well, there's your proof. People's
address book data with Outlook is being covertly collected and distributed.
That is why we won't use anything Microsoft and we totally agree with Dane who
wisely opts not to use those product.

Really? No argument here but I've had absolutely no problems with the free
stuff. Oh well, hope you find a good solution very soon.

Hi Chris
I'm sorry; I should have made this more clear. We want to stay well away from
Microsoft add-onds, and we're moving away from Eset Smart Security if possible.
Eset is fine as far as it goes; but they're quite expensive for what it is.
We never go for the free versions of anything, to be honest. There is, we find,
always a catch with those. And that is perfectly understandable.
Thank you for the suggestions though.

Ok I would go for Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus and
Malwarebytes Antimalware as your second line of defense. These are both free
and fully accessible applications. I can't see any other justification apart
from that. If you want to renew your Eset license, that's fine. But I use this
combination and they work great. In fact, I have paid for Malwarebytes
Antimalware Pro simply because of the realtime protection and scheduler
feature. But this one is up to you. The free version provides on demand
scanning and updating. Hope this helps.

Hello everybody
We are now in the process of setting up a couple of machines running Windows.
What do people recommend for system security and antivirus? We've had an Eset
Smart Security licence for the last 4 years but is expires later this month and
we are trying to decide whether to renew it or go for another solution.
Recommendations, suggestions, explanations, justifications, thoughts and
opinions welcome. Thank you.
