No way NVDA will be going anywhere any time soon, the only thing which may happen is that the developer may stop developing the software and - as has been suggested below - there's nothing whatever to stop others developing the software.
You can see how and what is happening to NVDA, there's no secrets kept from anyone on the NVDA support email list.
