A lot of people are concerned about U.S. Patent law in
that it is too easy to "own" an idea these days so basically,
everybody becomes a thief at some time or other. Hopefully, the
pendulum will swing back in the other direction one of these
days. Did you know, for example, that Kodak holds a patent on
gravity?
Yes, they do. The Kodak Carousel slide projector has a
round container that looks kind of like a bunt cake pan which
holds 80 or sometimes 130 35-MM slides. This holder sits on the
top of the projector and the mechanism allows a slide to fall by
force of gravity through an open slot in the holder or tray down
in to the gate where the bright light shines through it and it
is projected on the screen. If anybody else uses gravity, they
have to pay Kodak.
You do sometimes see projectors that move the slides
horizontally as nobody has patented horizontal motion yet.
