Hi This is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I need to get this sorted. I'm trying it out now in a virtual machine on my Mac. That too is Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Each machine has a minimum of 6GB of RAM and oodles of hard drive space. Nothing else is running when I try the installer except Window-Eyes, which I close down when the system restarts so that it doesn't interfere with Jaws. I appreciate you want to help, and I'm grateful. Don't get me wrong. Gordon On 5 Aug 2012, at 19:21, Øyvind Lode - Forums <[email protected]> wrote: I don't question your skills at all. But JAWS is usually straight forward to install. That's my experience at least. I really want to help but I'm currently lost. There is something either with JAWS or the Windows installation that won't work of some reason on your system. Is this a Windows 7 64-bit Home, Home Premium or Professional? And does this dongle contain a standard or professional JAWS license? Standard can only be used with Home and Home Premium versions of Windows 7. The professional license runs on all Windows versions. But since you're saying it's not even installing it's probably not related to the type of license. And by the way JAWS 32-bit will not run on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Clifford Blackwell Sent: 5. august 2012 19:45 To: Techno-Chat ... Since you're having problems with a downloaded version, could you get a demo hard copy from the Freedom Scientific distributor in the U.K.? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gordon Smith" <[email protected]> To: "Techno-Chat ... Hi Mary I'm not running it directly from the website, I never do that. I downloaded the software to a local directory, then ran it from there. The installer spent a good 20 minutes clicking at me, then it finally prompted me to do a restart. No speech unless I had Window-Eyes loaded at the start of the process. In fact, it took ages even after the restart to start talking. It gave me the license text, and all the usual installation questions. Then when I clicked on the "Install" button, nothing happened. It just sat there and then timed out on itself. I left it for 3 hours after the timeout then loaded Window-Eyes to see what was going on. The installer was sitting there doing absolutely nothing. It even didn't move when I eventually clicked Cancel, and I had to do a forced restart. However, I have noticed with JAWS 12 and 13 that a lot of times when getting JAWS installed from the web site, that the installed version you get is corrupt and you have to run a repair on it. It has happened with me and at least two other students in the past year, one as recently as last Friday.
