Hi Chris Wow! You’ve really been going around in circles haven’t you! The logical thing to do, I would have thought, would have been to remove all of it, including Chrome itself, then get his system to work. It’s such a shame you’re not running RollBAck, RX either of you. That would have solved your problem in a jiffy. But you didn’t try everything, did you, because you didn’t seemingly manually remove everything related to Chrome from the Registry after removing Chrome.
So here’s my suggestion for whatever it’s worth. Remove ChromeVox altogether. Don’t reinstall it at this point, as that’s a bit like urinating against the wind in a howling gale! :) Remove Chrome, if your problems persist one you’ve removed ChromeVox. If they still persist post-uninstall of Chrome, then it’s time to either manually remove the registry keys, ore else employ a registry cleaner tool to do the job for you if you’re not comfortable with manipulation of the registry. >From what you say, it sounds as though you’re helping him remotely. So you >may either have to gain full access to his machine or else talk your friend >through that process, what fun! But you need to be aware that just because you remove a programme from within Windows, that does not mean it is necessarily removed from your system. Now, Chris, I don’t profess to be the world’s leading expert on everything Windows. Far from it. But it seems like you missed out quite a few necessary steps there, or went around in ever decreasing circles. Finally, I’d better say this because I know how easy it is for the tone of an E-Mail to be misunderstood.
