Gordon,
Actually, we did try removing things manually from the registry after I
wrote my initial e-mail to the list. That isn't doing the slightest bit of
good either.
I even went so far as to look up online exactly what Chrome, and chrome's
dll dependencies were, make sure they were intact, and I even went so far as
to reregister them.
No, I'm not doing this remotely. I'm talking him through it over the phone.
Once I knew what dll's were needed, what registry keys were needed, etc.
etc. I actually wrote a little script using Visual Basic which I sent him to
automatically remove all these things.
Finally, it's important, Gordon, that you understand: roll back wouldn't
have done any good in this case that I am aware of, as all that would have
done is rolled his system back to when Chromevox was not installed. This
kind of defeats the whole purpose. the goal here is to get chromevox
working, not removed.
You mention getting his computer working again. Nothing at all's wrong with
his computer in a whole. It's just Chromevox itself being stupid. After
doing more research, I found that if you Reevo a program, in this case,
Chrome, it normally 99% the time gets rid of not only the program, but also
all associated dll's no longer linked to any other libraries, it unregisters
those dll's no longer needed, uninstalls the program itself, deletes all its
associated files, delete all associated folders, including those in
documents and settings\administrator, or default user\application data, and
finally, yes, it does delete all keys, values, strings, and sub strings as
well as all BD table references. Yes, I did manually verify that they all
were deleted.
Keep in mind, I'm A+ certified, and I also have a Cisco certification, and
I'm working on my Microsoft certification, and only have about 2 and a half
weeks left before I receive that credential. Though I understand the things
that you are saying, I assumed that when I mentioned about Reevo, that would
have been inferred that I'd removed all the things you mentioned. I
completely get the whole leaving trails of things behind. It's MicroCrap,
what do you expect! It's not the other unpardonably mentioned on this list
OS. Only true reason I'm getting certified MS in the first place is though
I don't like it, it's the leading industry standard OS, and thus, for work
related matters, I don't have much choice in the matter, seeing I do PC tech
support.
My point is, I'm perfectly aware of the things you say, and honestly feel
your so-called humorous comments about urinating into the wind etc. really
added entirely nothing to the thread. No, I'm not meaning to bite your head
off, nor reject your suggestions. They are great things to try, I'll very
very gladly acknowledge that, but, believe you me. These things all have
long since been tried.
Here's something else kind a strange. When he tried his account on another
computer he has, an Asus Windows XP netbook, he still has the issue, and
that was from a completely clean install of chrome/Chromevox. So! what
does this tell ya! It says, that it's not! a registry issue nor the like.
Chris.
