Dear Gordon,
Obviously plenty of interesting things going on for you in terms of work and technology. Hope it goes well. Best wishes, Roger. From: Gordon Smith [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 23 August 2017 09:56 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Techno-Chat]: Strange Question Regarding Braille Input Hi Roger Yes, dots 4+7 does indeed work. The concept of using the Focus’s keyboard is still quite a new one to me, and for whatever reason, I swear this didn’t work yesterday when I tried it on Debbie’s suggestion. But it does now. In fact, I am sure that yesterday I got the Asterisk symbol when I tried this. Not to worry, it works now. Incidentally I am probably going to get myself an ElBraille 40 when they hit the streets at the end of September. I may, or may not, I haven’t yet decided, get myself the new Focus 40 Braille display which has some very attractive features. But that one will be next year I think. One needs to be careful here because the Focus 40 Blue fifth generation is USB3.1C which isn’t compatible with the current USB 2.0 Focus. The dock station that will hit the market in September/October is USB2, the new model won’t be available, as I understand it, until early 2018. But for me, the ElBraille 40 and ElBraille 14 will be a fantastic solution to a lot of issues. Apart from the tablet motherboard on which they are built being 32-bit, (which doesn’t exactly break my heart), they’re a wonderful machine. In my specific case, if I need a BlueTooth Braille display, one that’s just as portable as the Focus, I have a couple of options. But the most portable one is the MiniSeika, which I have had for a long time but not used much until now. Although it’s cheap and a bit clunky, it will serve the purpose. Anyway, I’m babbling. ================================================= My compliments and kindest regards Gordon Smith: <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > Accessibility & Information Technology Support Specialist.. Technology Enthusiasm! < <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected]> Subject: [Techno-Chat]: Strange Question Regarding Braille Input Hello everybody I’ve stumbled upon an issue. To which I just cannot find the answer. I’ve banged my head against so many walls that bits are starting to fall off it! So now, I have to bug the group. My password to log into Windows and my Microsoft account uses upper case characters, lower case characters and digits. Using a Braille display’s Perkins-style keyboard, how does one go about entering this combination of characters at the Windows password prompt? I have tried using computer Braille, no go. I’ve tried to use the usual U+Chord command to indicate that I’m about to enter an upper case character. No go. I obviously can’t use either literary grade 1/2 at this juncture, because in UEB and the old-style British Braille, the dots 3, 4, 5 and 6 keystroke produces different symbols. Any suggestions very much appreciated. ================================================= My compliments and kindest regards Gordon Smith: < <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected]> Accessibility & Information Technology Support Specialist..
