Hi Jeff,

You don't have to pay anywhere near $300. There are lots of used
screens on ebay. I saw one for my model for $30. According to
what some people are saying it's not the screen or the connections
when there are vert lines and no video (hard to believe it's not
the cable, which is very rigid for a cable which needs to move every
time you open and close the display).

Supposedly the display drivers can cause this. There is a very small
board plugged into the main board which the LCD cables plug into. But
how do I test to see which is bad? Seems like buying used parts may
be the only practical way.

I already separated the LCD housing, like a remote (as you said)
