Al, when you want to heat up an area of fine and/or cluttered pc connects enough to create a slight melting of the solder thats already on the board, without having to add or touch them in any manner via using a butane torch, and being a bit more precise making sure your careful of all plastics, such as connectors, filter cap covering etc. The area I did on my repair was mostly pc connects, ICs, x-sisters other misc. that can handle the heat, still being very careful and having a good visual<(my hardest) of what your doing.
Don't use this technique often but might start having to, thats just my personal feeling...
