Do you want an HDTV or NTSC?

Personally:
I have an RCA p61something DTV307(?) with the digital tuner and an outside
antenna at my home. No cable. I am very pleased the set. I like the RCA
picture. I like the way they process the color and the looks of the
picture.

Aarons Rental buys LOTS of RCA product. You can buy (not rent to own) from
Aarons. The price is probably the best in town. That is their hook. But
if you buy outright you are OK. RCA PTVs from Aarons have a two year parts
and labor warranty rather than the normal one year.

My opinion:
If you are looking for an NTSC, an RCA ptk195 chassis set is the way to go.

If you are looking for an HD set:
>From RCA, a set with the ITC222 chassis.
Note: Same model numbers, differentiated by a suffix, some have the ITC222
chassis, some have the ATC221 chassis. The 221 chassis is loaded with
intermittant problems.

We are an ASC for Thomson, JVC, and Sony.

I would exclude JVC.
These are not cheap TVs. JVC PTVs have some screwy problems, and they are
presently having a difficult time sourcing parts, especially for the
convergence circuit, which allways have intermittant problems. The picture
is fair, but I like the RCA pic better.

Sony has a "focus" problem with ALL of their sets. OK, it isn't a "focus"
problem.
What happens is the digital video processor can not "move" pixels fast
enough, so they start processing "blocks" of pixels. The more motion there
is the larger the blocks of pixels become. If there is a lot of action in a
scene it looks as if it goes out of focus.

I recently aquired a Sony KP53hs30 the customer did not want repaired. This
set is a "shop" monitor. It gets compared to plasma, LCD, DLP sets. This is
a 4x3 HD monitor. HD picture in picture! That is unusual. Anyway, the set
has a beautiful picture. Personally, if I had bought the set (ok, I have my
time and a red CRT invested in this) I would be dissapointed because of the
"focus" problem. However the picture really is good.

Panasonic
I have worked on several Panasonic HD sets. They have a good picture.
Parts are not generally an issue. The NTSC panasonics do not impress me.
If you want to come down for a visit I will make you a good deal on a
Panasonic HD PT51hx40b that has a Very slight Fox news logo burn-in, not
visible on letter boxed shows/movies.

Samsung
There is no samsung ASC in our area, and we have been doing their warranty
work "on call" as it were, COD.
The picture is not very good.

My personal recomendation would be to find an RCA ptk195 set used in good
condition and tweek it up. They can have a very good picture. I think it
is a little early to buy an HD set.

My first PTV was an RCA 46" 195 chassis, bought "dead" from Gulf Power. I
watched this set for a couple of years, tweeking it a little at a time.
Everybody that came over wanted to buy it. It was replaced by an HD
Panasonic pt51hx40b (above) that Pansonic left with me. Over time I
assembled an RCA 61" HD digital tuner set out of multiple lightning strike
sets. The Panasonic went to my mother, she watched that for a while. When
I aquired the Sony (above) the Panasonic got pushed aside, and is now for
sale.
