Joe, The only thing I can think is defective yoke... On most Projos, you will burn some parts if you disconnect any of the yokes. Try disconnecting the Red CRT and convergence yoke and see if the set fires. Or, compare resistance readings on each yoke. Jeff, I'm not checking the vertical section because 1. I have vertical sweep (at least the red shows full sweep...the green and the blue will "flash" when I turn the set off). 2. I have no idea where the vertical circuit is (no schematics). My son is trying to get his Direcway up again so he can download the files from the Hitachi site. (very large files) 3. When I flip the vertical setup switch, I can get a straight-line on all three tubes, so I feel like the problem lies elsewhere. 4. I just ran the G2 up long enough to see what was what (it had to be done) Hope this helps with the confusion.
