Martin,
I take exception to your response to Craig's question. Normally I would
not bother answering you but when you insult the efforts of a small group
of volunteers in SNIP and Claredi who have put in hundreds of volunteer
hours developing test scenarios and actual test files for the public's use
... at NO charge ... you bring out a fierce reaction.

WEDI SNIP's Transaction Testing subwork group has created, and Claredi has
been kind enough to voluntarily develop, test files for both Business and
Technical tests using the X12N 837 Implementation Guides.

There are over 4,700 Technical scenarios available at claredi.com under the
'tab' FREE STUFF. So I guess that would equate to a "few" to some people,
who did not volunteer their time to work on the project.

The Technical tests are syntactical tests looking to ensure 5 conditions
are handled:
      length too short
      length too long
      invalid entry
      missing entry and finally a
      correct entry
These tests are for fields and segments within the three 837 types.

The Business Cases are circumstances specific as they relate to the use of
the Implementation Guide.... what is required to create an Ambulance 837 as
opposed to a Med/Surg 837 or a Home Infusion service.

"Broken 837s" ?! This term implies these tests do not perform the actions
for which they were designed. Based on that definition I beg to differ.

As far as having to 'resort to using the samples in the Implementation
Guide' .... that's what the X12 authors wrote them for, the public to use
the samples! What a poor choice of words.

And finally NONE ... I repeat NONE of the WEDI SNIP test scenarios require
you to be a Claredi Customer! In fact you will soon be able to access this
information using a link from the SNIP website.

The problem is all of the work is strictly on a volunteer basis and each
one of us in SNIP ... including the dedicated people with Claredi... have
full-time jobs already so there are more scenarios which need to be written
by the Testing SWG and created by Claredi. There are over 600 people on
the Testing ListServ but there are only a dozen some volunteers who do the
work.

Perhaps Martin if you are so anxious for more test scenarios you are
volunteering to help us! The Testing Group has a call every other week at
8AM Mountain and Pacific / 11 AM Eastern at 703-736-7290 call code
1315339. The next scheduled call happens to be this Thurs 4/25.

That seems to be the problem right now. Claredi just has a few broken
837's. I heard that WEDI is supposed to publish more but I havn't seen a
thing yet.
I resorted to using the samples in the Implementation guides.
I heard Claredi has a lot more if you sign up with them.

 Subject: HIPAA Compliance Tests

 Hi folks,

I have seen references to your group developing tests for HIPAA compliance
in my search of the internet, and have found a set of tests you published
for one transaction. I was wondering what was happening with tests for the
other transactions? Are there plans for publishing any more test suites?
If not, do you know of any source of valid and/or invalid data sets to
build my own test suites from?

 Thanks for your time,
