Thanks to Rainer and Johan for their suggestions.
I'll let you know how I fare.

It's all my own fault,  as I wrote some music
where I expect the bold singer (tenor) to manage
a compass of 1.8 octaves (my Oxford Companion says
I can in fact invite them to deal with 2 octaves).

But in reality, they squawk at me (and squeak the
notes) so hence the Ossia for the less able singers..

Perhaps I should be pragmatic and just lessen the
compass... No, never !
