It didn't seem to have any effect for me - but there are so many things I could be doing wrong without realizing it... > > PS: Unfortunately, prepmx and pmxb don't seem to be available anymore - > > without root access, I'll have to wait for the Uni admin people to do it. > > In the software section of the Icking Archive you'll find an on-line > documentation on setting up MusiXTeX et. al. under Linux/Unix, see > http://icking-music-archive.org/software/musixtex/musixtex-for-unix.html > > Have a look at section on Setting up a "private" TEXMF tree, > http://icking-music-archive.org/software/musixtex/musixtex-for-unix.html#TOC7 > explaining how to install the MusiXTeX software in your local environment. > Doing so will make it feasible for you to keep your software updated. It's a good idea - but the webpage says you need root access to do it! I'll reread it, to see if I missed something tho... Anyway, it's very nice that someone has heard the cry for help :-) Most computer problems don't have easy solutions (even if they should); but it's much better than doing it alone. So, thanks - and I'll check those ideas out!
