Dear Jean-Pierre,
I remember you that it is possible to use directly accented letter with
plain TeX as with LaTeX. You must add these commands:
\input plainenc\relax\fontencoding{T1}\inputencoding{latin1}
Perhaps, you have to replace the encoding (latin1) with the right one
for your system.
With these settings, {\mycmbx PI�CES de BO�LY} should give the desired
result.
