Hello,

to save space in a three staves partiture I want to exclude one staff for
the first two pages. I read in PMX250.pdf that I can change the number of
instruments but could not figure out, how it should work.

The staff starting with d83 should be hidden until bar 16 inclusively.

Another idea is that a lot of bars have repetitions of a pattern. I would
like to replace every second "d35 c a f r8" with a \duevolte\. Unfortunately
I have to replace it with "\duevolte\ rb4". Since rb4 is a PMX command, I
cannot use a TeX define like \\def\rpt{\duevolte\rb4}\ to make a shurtcot.
Is there any other convinient way to insert this "Faulenzer" (1) as a
replacement for repeated pattern?

(1) don't know the english word.

Hope you can give me a hint.

Both of your problems are dealt with in PMX; read my PMX
tutorial

     http://icking-music-archive.org/software/pmx/pmxccn.pdf .

    (i) Hiding staves: described in sec. B 5.8, p.62 .

WARNING: I HAVE NEVER TRIED THIS (!!!) myself, but simply
followed Don Simons' instructions when writing the
tutorial. So I lack all practical experience with this. If
you incur difficulties, pkease don't hesitate to write
again. In fact, I would love to hear of your learning
        curve on this.

(ii) writing shorthand for repeated bars etc. :
this is easy (RTFM): make a macro. Cf. sec. B 7, p.69.

Hope this hilft.
